As we continue our mission, our DOE Council on Women and Girls (CWG) works to create programs that improves and enhances work/life balance of women DOE employees and their families. DOE strives to ensure equal access of opportunities for women-owned businesses in the energy sector and works collaboratively with other federal agencies to raise awareness, promote and provide opportunities for the professional growth of women in the Science fields.

DOE is committed to enhancing its employees well-being as they serve the nation. We offer several widely used programs that promote work/life balance and improve the lives of women in the workplace and their families.

• Child Facilities & Development Centers: At our Washington, DC headquarters office, we operate two child development centers accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Each center provides a day care service that accommodates up to 75 children of federal government employees, ranging in age from six weeks to five years. Our child development centers are open from 7:15 a.m. until 6:15 p.m, Monday through Friday.

• Employee Assistance Program: Our headquarters Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers no-cost, confidential, short-term counseling and community resource referral for various issues affecting employee mental and emotional well-being. Educational and wellness programs are often held on a variety of topics to benefit employees, and lending libraries and informational resources are also available for various uses.

• Lactation Program: Our wellness program located in our Washington, DC headquarters office works to support employees who are devoted to their families. The lactation program is supported through our occupational health clinics and housed with a dedicated lactation room decorated and reserved for your private use.

• Telecommuting Program/Alternative Work Schedule (AWS): Telecommuting, also known as DOE-Flex or Flexiplace is a program available to DOE employees who telecommute. While our alternative work schedule (AWS) program is a compressed work schedule that allows employees to complete the 80-hour basic work requirement in less than 10 work days.
