When she launched Kristof Wines this year, Diane Dobry became the USA’’s first female importer of Hungarian wine. It all started during an early Sunday morning drive in January 2004 to the quaint village of Villány in the southwest corner of Hungary. Diane breakfasted on a 2003 Merlot and the traditional Hungarian Kékfrankos. The fruity full-bodied complexity of the deep red wines proved a delightful way to wake up the taste buds. From that day, her mission became clear: to introduce Americans to Hungary through one of its oldest and most esteemed traditions: winemaking.
