About MTA-Long Island Rail Road:

The Long Island Rail Road is the largest commuter railroad in North America.  We set a modern-day ridership record in 2007 with over 86 million passengers – the highest number of customers served since 1949!  This record was set while at the same time hitting a modern-day high for yearly on time performance in 2007 of 94.07%.  This is an exciting time to join the LIRR as we are embarking on many new projects, such as a connection tunnel to Grand Central Terminal in 2016, bringing LIRR customers directly to the East Side of Manhattan.
