About United States Capitol Police:

Created by an act of Congress in 1828, the sole purpose of the United States Capitol Police was to provide security for the United States Capitol Building.

The protection of all 535 Members of Congress, Officers of Congress, and their families, is expanded by statute to the entire United States, and its possession and territories.

We are the only law enforcement agency in the Legislative Branch of government.
