Review Resumes at the Fall 2011 Career Expo
In preparation for our fall 2011 Women For Hire season, we’d like to invite you to join us whether it’s your first time or you’ve participated with us before.
Last season, some of the bells and whistles we added – The Interview, Perfect Pitch and Mentor Match – resonated with job seekers and made their time with us much more worthwhile. As you know, of all the services we offer at each career expo, resume critiquing and career coaching are by far the most popular.
Here are our dates:
Atlanta: Tuesday, October 4 (Cobb Galleria)
Chicago: Thursday, October 6 (Navy Pier)
Los Angeles: Tuesday, October 18 (Four Points by Sheraton at LAX)
New York: Thursday, November 3 (Hilton New York)
DC: Wednesday, November 9 (The Almas Temple at the Hamilton Crowne Hotel)
Dallas: Tuesday, November 15 (Doubletree Hotel by Hilton Dallas)
HOURS: 10am to 2pm. Since resume critiquing is very popular, we ask for a four-hour commitment. Please arrive by 9:30am and plan to critique until the event ends promptly at 2pm.
AGENDA: Plan to spend a short time (five to seven minutes) with each jobseeker. The goal is to provide some general observations about a resume and make a few constructive suggestions. All resume critiquers are, of course, free to mention their services and provide contact information. But we like everyone to leave with specific tips and feedback. Lunch and beverages are provided.
We have found that giving candidates a one-page list of standard resume tips cuts down on repetition. This document is also a great place to provide information about your services, including a contact number or email address. Many coaches receive referral business this way.
PROMOTION: In all of our extensive marketing efforts, we promote free resume reviewing as a key component to our events. Since we know your time is valuable, we include your name and contact information in the directory that is distributed to all attendees. This packet includes a list of participating employers as well as any additional offerings from last season. Last year, some resume critiquers also spent some time evaluating job seekers’ interview skills with a new feature called The Interview. They also chose to partake in Perfect Pitch to help jobseekers perfect their 30-second elevator pitch. Please let us know if this interests you.
We hope this gives you a good sense of the day. If you have colleagues who are resume writers or career coaches who you think might also be interested in joining us, we encourage you to forward this email to them please contact Genevieve Geaney at [email protected] or 212.290.2600. We would be happy to talk to them about joining us at any of our six expos this year. (Please note that we’re returning to Los Angeles.)
Let us know if you have any questions.
