On the Road Again: Tory's "Take Control" Photo Diary
Tory JohnsonThis September I hit the road once again with Good Morning America for another leg of my “Take Control of Your Life” series. This time the tour was all about celebrating women who have found flexibility, balance and satisfaction in their work and home lives — and encouraging other women to do the same. Here are pictures of some of the the great women I met along the way.
DallasWhile at the Women’s Museum, I was surrounded by hundreds of women who’ve taken control of their lives and are now making every moment count in the ways that work best for them and their families. For many of them, it means working from home or working flexibly. |

Washington, D.C.On our final stop we took the fight to Capitol Hill to confront one of the things you’ve e-mailed us about – the strain of balancing work and home — especially when your family needs you most: a new baby, caring for an elderly parent or coping with an illness. We met with Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., who has introduced an upgrade of the existing Family and Medical Leave Act that would provide up to eight weeks of paid leave, which would be paid for through an insurance fund financed by employees and employers equally |

"Good Morning America"
Tory JohnsonOne of the best hats I wear is as the Workplace Contributor on ABC’s Good Morning America. That’s not just because I’m very fortunate to work with Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts, though they’re a pretty big bonus. What I love most is the opportunity to connect with millions of morning show viewers on a wide range of career-related topics.
On any given day I may delve into making money at home, and the next week we switch gears to focus on faith in the workplace or how to deal with annoying co-workers. I’ve turned the tables on recruiters to reveal their true feelings about granting flextime and hiring through online job boards. I’ve reported on career comebacks, job searching after 50, and eldercare demands on employees.
Many of these segments fall within the umbrella of our popular TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE series, which started with a focus on how to make money at home. As a direct result, more than 10,000 viewers have told us that they’re now doing just that—and all of them are appreciative of the advice and resources offered by their favorite morning news program.
