Beginning Your Job Search
Editorial TeamThe First Step…Self Esteem & Confidence
The first step toward career success is being in the right frame of mind. You must believe it in order to achieve it. Since the power of positive thinking can propel your career forward in any direction you dream, you must begin your journey by promising to be optimistic and believing in your own ability to reach beyond your current situation.
"Good Morning America"
Editorial TeamOne of the best hats I wear is as the Workplace Contributor on ABC’s Good Morning America. That’s not just because I’m very fortunate to work with Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts, though they’re a pretty big bonus. What I love most is the opportunity to connect with millions of morning show viewers on a wide range of career-related topics.
On any given day I may delve into making money at home, and the next week we switch gears to focus on faith in the workplace or how to deal with annoying co-workers. I’ve turned the tables on recruiters to reveal their true feelings about granting flextime and hiring through online job boards. I’ve reported on career comebacks, job searching after 50, and eldercare demands on employees.
Many of these segments fall within the umbrella of our popular TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE series, which started with a focus on how to make money at home. As a direct result, more than 10,000 viewers have told us that they’re now doing just that—and all of them are appreciative of the advice and resources offered by their favorite morning news program.

Returning to Work After Years at Home Brings Many Challenges
Editorial Team 1Former at-home parents who return to work these days ‘land like real-life Rip Van Winkles in a strange new world of technology, team dynamics, office fashion, and water cooler talk at the office,” Sue Shellenbarger writes. Plus, they must renegotiate relationships at home, probably take a cut in pay and status and prove themselves all over again.
